Home Sleep Study - Bring the Sleep Center to Your House

$695 Sleep Test & Diagnosis

Home Sleep Study Center for Bay Area
Many of our patients are concerned when we recommend having a sleep study to rule out obstructive sleep apnea. The thought of finding and spending the night in a sleep center or sleep clinic can cause anxiety. No need to worry though.

Sleep centers and sleep studies have come a long way in the last five years. Many of the sleep clinics we work with have TVs, full beds, private bathrooms, and feel more like a small condo than a sleep center. The other great news is the availability of the home sleep study. We now offer a portable and easy way to have a sleep study done in the comfort of your own home and, most importantly, in your own bed.

When Do We Recommend a Home Sleep Study?

Recently, Medicare and many of the common medical insurance companies started recognizing home sleep testing or ambulatory sleep test as a reliable and safe way to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. This doesn’t mean that we no longer need or work with sleep centers or sleep clinics. We still do. But now we only use sleep studies done in sleep centers for more complex or more involved diagnosis. When patients come to us looking to rule out obstructive sleep apnea, we usually recommend the home sleep test as a quick, easy way to answer their question. If the results are negative, and they still have symptoms or other concerns, then we refer them out to a sleep disorder center for more extensive testing.

How does a Home Sleep Test Work?

While there are a few home sleep study systems available now, we work with the ARES monitor from WaterMark Medical. The ARES home sleep system measures a number of critical components of your sleep cycles, such as blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, airflow, respiratory effort, snoring levels, head movement, position, etc.

All of these measurements are made while you sleep, and are used by our sleep physician to determine if you have obstructive sleep apnea. While a home sleep study cannot be used to rule out central sleep apnea (CSA), or periodic limb movement syndrome and other sleep disorders, it is a great way to verify if your snoring and fatigue are symptoms of sleep apnea.

Does Medical Insurance or Medicare Cover a Home Sleep Study?

Yes. Medicare and many medical insurance carriers recognize a home sleep study as an accurate way to rule out obstructive sleep apnea. As a result they are starting to cover this expenditure. If you have any questions around your medical insurance or Medicare coverage, please give us a call. We’d be happy to take a look for you.

Do We Take Your Medical Insurance?

Since we work with a number of board-certified sleep physicians around the Bay Area, the chances are very good that the test will be considered in-network for your insurance plan. The best thing to do is give us a call. Once we have your insurance information, we can call and see if we are in-network for you.

Taking a Home Sleep Study Test

Below is a short video on the ARES home sleep apnea test system. We chose ARES over WatchPat as it is recognized as the industry leader in home diagnostic testing for OSA. It is also recognized by more sleep physicians and medical insurance companies as the most accurate and easy to use system. Finally, Medicare recognizes the ARES home sleep test system as a better way to get an accurate measurement of sleep since you are sleeping, in your own bed, in your own house.

Scheduling a Home Sleep Study
